I began playing the piano at the age of 9 and immediately knew it was “my thing”. Instead of going out to recess, I would practice in the music room and spend time with the music teacher. I decided I was going to be a professional pianist by the time I was 11.
In high school, I took advantage of every musical opportunity; I accompanied three choirs, taught myself to play the saxophone, sang, played at churches, joined the New Hampshire Youth Wind Symphony, and accompanied musicals. I went on to attend the University of New Hampshire where I devoured each one of my music classes. In 1993, I began teaching at the Bell Center for Music and Arts in Dover, New Hampshire, and quickly found myself with a full schedule. I graduated in 1995, Magna Cum Laude, with a Bachelor of Music in Music Education. I remained at the Bell Center for ten years and also joined the faculty at Berwick Academy in South Berwick, Maine. I then started my independent studio in my home in 2000.
I am a member of Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) and earned my title of Nationally Certified Teacher of Music (NCTM) in 2012. I'm a member of NHMTA and Seacoast NHMTA, the local chapters of MTNA. I served as the NHMTA Evaluations Chairperson for fifteen years and was the President of Seacoast NHMTA for six years. I had the honor of being chosen 2012 NHMTA Teacher of the Year and was recognized by former Governor John Lynch for excellence in teaching. For ten years, I was the pianist and organist at the Newmarket Community Church.
I live in Newfields, NH, with my amazing husband Vasu, two wonderful, talented teenage children, Jai and Anjali, Alex the cat, and two charismatic and energetic Goldendoodles, Rosie and Toby.
